Fender is the most famous manufacturer of electric guitars, founded by Leo Fender in 1946. He "invented" the electric guitar as we know it today through two classical models: the Stratocaster and Telecaster. The success of these models is due to the ergonomic design and versatile sound. Since then, Fender guitars were the favorite of many famous musicians: Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Keith Richards, Kurt Cobain, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour and many others ...
Over time the range has expanded and Fender is famous for its electric bass as the Precision Bass. Furthermore, its products offer excellent value for money.
Founded by Orville Gibson in his small workshop of mandolins in Kalamazoo (Michigan) its production is characterized by a very high quality and great design studio.
Gibson introduced in the early '20s guitar L-5, with the classic "f" holes. The L-5 was imposed in the music scene and became the first guitar to play a key role in the orchestra.
In 1934 he was installed the first pick-up on the L-5 allowing it to compete in volume with other instruments. In 1937 it became part of the catalog the first Gibson electric guitar, the ES-150, capable of being amplified through magnetic pickups.
To compete with the Fender Telecaster and his thanks to the help of guitarist Les Paul, and he wanted guitars that had a natural sustain than twenty seconds, which explains their relative weight. The body was made of solid mahogany with a maple cap in front of 12mm. The carved profile was suggested by Gibson to protect against any imitations. The original 1952 Gibson Les Paul had two pick-ups to simple high-impedance coil with plates of cream-colored cover, separate volume and tone controls and a selector lever three-way pick-ups. The bridge was adjustable Tune-O-Matic. These features are still present today, except for pick-ups replaced by new humbuckers.
In addition to the two giants of the guitar, there are a myriad of brands that build electric guitars: one can cite the Jackson, Epiphone, Ibanez, ESP, Yamaha ... each specialized in his field.
The choice is up to the musician and the kind that will play to his financial resources and of course!
